Lived experience

Specialising in the equitable integration of lived experience and consumer representation. Lucy offers support for the whole process of lived experience advocacy and engagement from recruitment and training of lived experience advocates, trauma-informed non-therapeutic pre- and de-briefing for advocates and organisations, professional development and coaching, to evaluation and enhancement of lived experience initiatives.

Coaching and debriefing

Lucy uses a trauma-informed approach to create safe environments for coaching and debriefing, taking into account broader systems of power and oppression. She prioritises client’s ability to have control, choice, and autonomy, helping people develop skills for self-awareness, critical reflection, down regulation, boundary setting, achievement of goals, and self-care.

Professional development

Facilitating learning is Lucy's happy place. She has facilitated hundreds of workshops and professional development programs across sectors. Her approach focuses on drawing on people's expertise and experiences to co-create learning and engaging people where they are at in judgement-free spaces. She takes an intersectional approach to understanding people's learning needs and can curate learning around a wide variety of topics - so just ask!

Co-design

Lucy's has facilitated a huge number of co-design processes across sectors, co-producing everything from frameworks, teaching toolkits, and organisational strategy or policy through to whole services, cross-sector collaborations, and engagement programs. Her method is intersectional, anti-colonial, and feminist, valuing diverse knowledges and centring the voices of marginalised groups typically excluded from mainstream processes.

Previous project examples

Housing consultation

I ran the lived experience consultations for the 20-year Tasmanian Housing Strategy on behalf of Homes Tasmania. Focus groups were held state-wide to develop a deep understanding of lived experiences of homelessness and housing stress. I made recommendations based on an analysis of these stories which informed the future of housing across the state.

Co-design for health improvement

I curated and ran a co-design process between healthcare consumers and researchers for the Tasmanian Collaboration for Health Improvement (TCHI). This process developed recommendations and resources which informed the approach taken by TCHI to collaborating with consumers and including consumers in their organisational governance.

Lived experience advisory panels

I provide support to lived experience advisory panels through non-therapeutic debriefing and trauma-informed reflective practice to enable their advocacy, self-empowerment, and capability development. I currently do this for the Tasmanian State Government's Department of Justice and Department of Premier and Cabinet, and the Australian Government's Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commission.

Experiences of reproductive healthcare

I ran a state-wide community engagement / human research project for Women's Health Tasmania on people's experiences of abortions in Tasmania. I conducted and analysed interviews and focus groups to deliver a comprehensive report including recommendations for better practice at individual, organisational, and systems levels to ensure Tasmanians have safe and equitable access to reproductive healthcare.

Engagement framework design

I worked with the University of Technology Sydney's Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion to undertake an organisation-wide consultation to inform the design of a new engagement framework. I co-ordinated a large-scale survey and wide-spread focus groups on staff and external partners of UTS' experiences of working in cross-sector partnerships. The analysis of these consultations informed an organisation-wide engagement framework and evaluation tool to support effective inter-organisational partnerships, ensuring they can be measured and developed over time.

Organisational evaluation review

I ran a review process of Women's Health Tasmania's evaluation processes to identify areas for strengthening and development. This included a critical analysis of the organisations current approaches to service and social impact evaluation and an all-staff workshop to identify ways to make the organisations evaluation approaches more efficient, sustainable, and powerful in telling the real story of all the deep impact they achieve for Tasmania.
